October is a wonderful month in New England—leaves starting to turn colors, the sun starting to set a little earlier, and for the most part, the weather has turned quite pleasant and cool. Walking from Kendall Square in Cambridge, over to Boston was quite pleasant, as the timing was perfect for taking photos.

The 45mm performed well. It did have some issues focusing when the flare was too strong—e.g., the lens hunted a bit when I tried to take photos of Boston skyline when one building had a strong reflection of the sun. I didn't try shooting the same situation with the 12mm, since I wasn't out there to "test" the lenses.

Note: I notice that when I save my photos in JPEG and use Flickr Uploader, the colors get muted—reds aren't vibrant and greens seem a bit muddy. I have decided to save the images as PNG files which improves a little, BUT EXIF data is no longer available.

Assignment 1. Frozen Time. We’ve played with motion blur, but there is another very powerful way to convey energy, freeze motion in a way that can’t possibly just exist. High shutter speed in plenty of light will give a nice sharp image no matter how fast your subject may be moving. Images will be judged on sharpness. Tag with cwd131.

It was really sunny and so I managed to get my max shutter speed in use (1/4000) but this also provided it's own issues. The helicopter was under-exposed due to the sun's position (bloody pilot flew the wrong way!) and obviously a fill-in flash wasn't going to work ;¬)

So, I went for the silhouette shot. Shame the Flickr uploader stripped off the EXIF data

However, many people also worry about the potential of bears of breaking into their food because they are too big to fight off without a gun. It is important to properly store your food no matter what kind of camping you are involved in.

Animals have been known to pester backpackers, campers, and even those simply staying in a hotel. Even day trips have been ruined because people forgot to properly store their food away.

Wild animals may raid your camp any time during the day or night. It is critical that you store food away properly all times during the day and night or you may lose it.

Sometimes people forget to store something away because it does not necessary mean food for them. However, food for an animal is anything that has some kind of smell.

For example, you may want to invest in freeze dried meal packages for the trip. These meals only need water added to them for a delicious, tasty, and nutritional meal.

In the past, these meals were not very good, but a lot of improvements have been made and they are now quite delicious. Not only will these meals taste wonderful and save room, but it will save time so that you and your family can enjoy doing more activities.

Of course, some campsites offer extra food storage services. It is a good idea to call ahead to your campsite and see if any of these things are offered.

If you do have a problem with a bear, it is very important that you report the incident to an official. It is important to a campsite to know how often the area is threatened by bears.

Even though your car may seem like a safe place to store food, it is actually not. Bears have been known to break in if they smell something delicious in there.

Be sure to empty your car of all food before you retire for the night. Place all of the food in the proper kind of storage container.

If you are going for a walk or something where you will leave camp temporarily, be sure to check your food containers to make sure they are close properly. Even if you checked a moment ago, someone may have snuck out another goodie.

These magnificent creatures once dominated the earth in Europe, Asia and Africa. During ancient history, they wandered in the African savannas and the tropical forests of Asia. This is depicted by early Europeans in their cave paintings. Prominently known for their thick skin and long horns, they are one of the five surviving species in the family Rhinocerotidae. Out of the five surviving species, the Javan Rhinoceros, Sumatran Rhinoceros and Black Rhinoceros are on the brink of extinction. The other surviving species are the white rhinos and the Indian rhinos. They are animals with hoofs but again their number of toes is reduced. The bulk of their weight is balanced using the middle toe present in each foot. Rhinoceroses are extremely large and very thick skinned. They are capable of growing up to 3 and a half feet to 6 and half feet tall at the shoulder. They are extremely heavy and can weigh between 1 to 2 tonns.

The skin also shelters a lot of external parasites such as crabs. But their brain is much smaller when compared to their Brobdingnagian size. The brain of a rhino weighs only about 400 - 600 grams.

Some people believe that these horns have a medicinal value and can cure fevers. They also have ornamental values.

In spite of their horrendous size, rhinos are animals which feed on only plants and vegetation. So they are actually herbivores. They do not have teeth at the front of their mouths. They use their premolar and molar teeth to grind their food. They never approach human beings. It might happen occasionally when they are triggered to aggression. However it is very easy to elude these creatures as their eyesight is poorly developed. They are incapable of making targeted attacks. However they do have a very well sense of smell and hearing capability. I have watched a couple of streaming videos of these astounding creatures on xfinity internet. Actually to be honest, we human beings are their only threat. But thanks to their rescuers who have made this earth a better place for these wondrous creations of God.

Gone From the Earth - Extinct Animals

The Tyrannosaurus Rex is one of the most famous extinct animals. He was the largest carnivorous land animal of all time, measuring forty-three feet long and sixteen and a half feet high, with a weight that may have approached seven tons. He had a huge skull (but a small brain), balanced by a long tail. His hind legs were large and powerful, but his forelimbs were very small and they only had two digits on them.

T. Rex fossils have been found in North America, and these date back to the last years of the Cretaceous Period. This was roughly sixty-five million years ago. He was one of the last dinosaurs on earth before the extinction-causing event that befell all the dinosaurs. There have been more than thirty fossil structures unearthed that archaeologists identify as T. rex.

Another interesting mammal on the extinct animals list is the Quagga, which is a wild animal, half horse, half zebra. Scientists have since genetically manipulated genes to create a Zorse, which is also a horse-zebra hybrid. The original Quagga's have been extinct in the wild since 1883. These animals had zebra markings only on the front part of their body - the back part was usually a mousy dun color. Their name came from a Khoikhoi word for Zebra.

The Quagga was originally put into the mammal class as its own species, Equus Quagga. But scientists realized that this was no simple Zebra they were looking at. Quagga were hunted to extinction for their hides and meat, and to save feed for domestic animals. The Quagga was the first of the extinct animals to have researchers study its DNA.

The Tasmanian Tiger has been extinct since 1936. This was the largest carnivorous marsupial alive in modern times.

The breed originated in New Guinea and Australia, and it was also called the Tasmanian Wolf, and locally, where they were found, as Tazzy Tiger or Tiger.

The Tasmanian Tiger survived on the isle of Tasmania for thousands of years after it had disappeared from Australia. There were Tasmanian Tiger hunts, which helped to cause its extinction, but it was also affected by human encroachment on their lands, as well as dogs being introduced to their areas, and diseases affecting them.

Steller's Sea Cow went extinct in 1768. It used to be found near the Bering Sea, where it was discovered in 1741. The sea cow grew to about twenty-six feet in length, and weighed up to three tons. It looked much like a larger version of the seal, but it had a tail like a whale, and two stout forearms. According to the man who discovered the animals, he said they never came out on the shore, but always lived in the water. He also said that the animal had thick black skin like the bark of an oak tree.

These are just a few of the extinct animals that no longer roam - or swim - the earth.

Saving the Endangered Species of Cat Family from Extinction

In the meeting of citizens at Guwahati Press Club in Assam serious fears were expressed at increase the trend of killing and poaching of wildlife in several parts of Assam, India’s state. The meeting on 30 December 2011, forest department of Assam government is alarming by this meeting for wildlife. Another target of this meeting is Assam’s public relation the wing to the fight against superstitions linking several wildlife parts. 

National Park in India is main tourists spot in India. Attended the meeting by numbers of environment and wildlife activists, meeting also the appealed to Assam and central governments to the enlighten police departments on the wildlife issues as well.

Several wildlife and environment speakers raised the voice against the poaching and killing of tiger in the state. India’s national animal of the tiger and its half population of the world lived in India, says any serves of India on the tiger and wildlife population. 

Recently, one tiger was killed by many villagers in the Goreswar of the central Assam and its flesh eaten many people took away from the jungle. Although tiger flesh is not accepted as staple food in the Assamese society. In the December’s first week close to Kaziranga national park in the Assam happen a tragic event, there is one full grown tigress was killed by Police staff of the Assam. It tigress dead by 14 shots from 2 AK-47 rifles operated by the Assam police, when this metre is highlight in the court then police staff two villagers of the Bschsgaon village show as a criminal.

Fortunately, this event opened in original structure other police Battalion. Forest and Environment Minister of Assam Rockybul Hussain has ordered quickly inquiry into the event.

According to the India’s census of tigers in the January 2008, 1,411 tigers were alive in India but in the 1997 tigers were 3,508. In the early eighties, population of tigers of India was counted about 30,000. Of course there is god news for wildlife and tigers lovers in India population of tigers are increasing up to the 1,875 added by department of tiger’s census 2011. Assam and Kanha national park has taken pride because this state is habitat of about 15% tigers of the India’s total tiger numbers. There has raised more than 100 tiger population. 

Unfortunately, Assam knows a major State of India, where tiger poaching and killing is going on to the many years. Other States of Indian which observe the rampant killing and poaching of highly endangered species of wildlife include Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Kerala.

Tigers and other Indian wildlife are being frequently poached and killed for use in the some traditional medicine of the Chinese. One more reason many times superstition among different sections in our society instigates killing of wildlife. Hence awareness of the public is the need for saving endangered species of wildlife such as tiger, elephant, leopard and deer.

India’s national parks and wildlife sanctuaries are most famous on the world. It is attractive many lacks tourists from the all parts of India and other countries. National Park in India is full by wildlife and nature beauty. This beautiful land is renowned in the world for its national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. There is above 100 national parks and much more parks listed in World heritage Site by UNESCO such as Ranthambhore national park, Bandipur national park, Bandhavgarh national park, Kaziranga national park, Desert national park and much more.
