- Range: the Savannas of eastern Africa. Note: in prehistoric time this single species ranged over most open areas in Africa. The giraffe range began to shrink 1,400 years ago to its present size.
- Diet: Girraffes are browsers. plucking leaves, buds and fruits from trees such as acacia, mimosa and wild apricot.
- Fun Fact: a giraffe's 18-inch tongue helps extend its reach way up into the treetops and curls in between spiny thorns on acacia trees. It is believed that the black pigmentation prevents the tongue from getting sunburned.

Question Mark Butterfly - Polygonia interrogationis

Like all of the anglewing butterflies of the genus Polygonia, the adult Question Mark loves sap and rotting fruit. Normally highly alert, anglewings can become intoxicated if the fruit they are feeding on becomes fermented in the sun. These are brothers, having a nice little fight at Helle's parents house. When visiting with Artemis, all she did was growl at them and hiss... Helle's parents kept one of them (the rest went to other families), and as he has become bigger than Artemis now, they have become a little better friends with time.

A black and white photograph of the public library in Whitby, Ontario known as the "Carnegie Library".
Notes:
This library was created through a Carnegie grant and was known as a Carnegie Library. Construction for the Carnegie Library began in early 1913 and the building was opened in 1914 at the north east corner of Dundas and Byron Streets. The building housed approximately 5,000 books and served as the town's library from 1914 to 1973.
Today the Carnegie Library building is used as a lawyer's office at 132 Dundas Street West, Whitby, Ontario. The Whitby Public Library is now located at 405 Dundas Street West, Whitby, Ontario.
This photo was printed in The Gazette and Chronicle (newspaper) in April 1914 and in the Ontario Reformer's Commercial and Industrial Edition, 1916.

International animal welfare charity The Donkey Sanctuary is joining forces with popular East Devon attraction Seaton Tramway to offer a promotion for those enjoying their summer holidays in the area.
The charity’s headquarters near Sidmouth in Devon are open to the public 365 days a year, free of charge. As part of the new initiative, one customer from every group of passengers travelling on the tram can also add a free hot drink and giant chocolate cookie in The Donkey Sanctuary’s Hayloft restaurant to their day out. Visitors who make a purchase in The Donkey Sanctuary’s visitor centre and shop will also be given a voucher entitling one child per group to travel free with Seaton Tramway.
Emma Gill, PR Officer for The Donkey Sanctuary, says: “The Donkey Sanctuary is pleased to be working with Seaton Tramway to promote this exciting special offer for the summer holidays. I hope that locals and visitors alike will take advantage of this offer, and enjoy some great days out at two of the area’s popular visitor attractions. As a charity, we are always keen to invite people to see the work that we do, and I hope that this offer, along with our fun-packed programme of summer events, will encourage lots of people to visit The Donkey Sanctuary over the coming months.”
Jenny Nunn, Managing Director of Seaton Tramway adds: “I am delighted that we are teaming up with such a well respected institution as the Donkey Sanctuary and to be able to offer this great deal to visitors to both attractions, as it is important not just for us but the local community as a whole that visitors to the area see the best of what East Devon has to offer. At the Tramway we have a fun-filled seaside themed week ahead with the Pirate Tram, bouncy castle, Punch & Judy Show and barbecues at Colyton Station, as well as a chance to ride on the new pink tram officially launched last Saturday. This is also a fantastic time from the top deck of a tram to see some of the wildlife the Axe Estuary has to offer, such as kingfisher, little egret, heron and cormorant.”
Both offers apply to one person per group, and are valid seven days a week excluding Bank Holidays and special events. Further details about events at both attractions can be found at www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk and www.tram.co.uk.

Happy Tails: Dexter

We adopted our Dexter boy about 2 years ago, when he was a little over a year old. I wanted to just update you all and let everyone know he is doing wonderful!! When we got him his name was Sparky and he was a shy pup. He is now a very active, busy pug and is doing great with our older (she is 6) pug mix. They’re inseparable, and it's hard to believe there was a time they were apart! He also adores our two girls very much ages 3 & 5. I'm so glad we decided to adopt Dexter, he is truly a great addition to our family!
