Robert Miner R.I.P.

I have received the saddest news today. Robert Miner, a dear colleague from the MathWG, has passed away leaving wife and child behind. His legacy I am sure will live on: he has been the editor of the MathML spec, where I had the pleasure of working with him. I recall a most enjoyable trip from Lisbon to Porto in the train, on our way to a conference, during which we talked away for hours on matters of mathematics representation on the web. I also have a fond memory of a small crusade we run together to try to convince the Sage group to adopt or at least look into OpenMath and MathML. He gave a most brilliant survey talk on a search engine for mathematics during MKM07 "An Approach to Mathematical Search through Query Formulation and Data Normalization". Most recently, as vice president of Design Science, he has surely been instrumental in the creation of MathJax, to make mathematics accessible online.
I will miss him, and I am sure so will the entire W3C Math working group.
Robert did not want a funeral, but let's play Birdland for him because those with wings are angels.

This is his CV from the company site, Design Science
