Smoking Shelters (Uses)

Large Rectangle

Smoking shelters are designed to provide shelter for cigarette, cigar and pipe smokers. They also provide designated smoking areas away from entrances and protect employees and patrons from the wind, rain and sun etc.

A shelter can be constructed from wood and resemble a typical garden shed or pagoda for decorative purposes, or they may be constructed from metal, which is more robust and weather resistant than the wooden type. Most shelters are of the metal type, which is of frame design with clear vandal resistant panels to assist in the access of light. The frame is generally constructed from aluminium, and the clear panels are made of toughened Perspex.

Smoking shelters can be self assembly, but an installation service is often provided by most suppliers.

Wooden shelters are extremely popular and can be seen on the premises of many public houses, pubs and beer gardens. They conform to the smoking regulations of Jan 1st 2007, and are usually fitted with a mounted ashtray to prevent litter. They are available in many different styles to suit all occasions and the timber is treated to withstand wet and damp weather etc.

Metal smoking shelters are more robust and durable and can resemble a typical bus shelter. Both types of shelter, wood and metal can include seating arrangements.

Smoke from a shelter should not discharge into a public place or workplace..

It is advised that ashtrays and waste bins be provided at smoking shelters to minimise litter from smoking.

Since 1st Jan 2007 smoking has been prohibited in all public and work places, and the introduction of smoking shelters has provided a quick and easy solution to smokers needs.
