Fall Color at the Riparian Preserve
Ok, in the last photo I said I didn't get lovely photos of ducks, but I admit there is actually a duck in this image. There is some kind of wading bird as well. It's early in the "season" for the Gilbert Riparian Preserve to be ready for the incoming snowbirds, but there is an advance team already on site. Even though the lakes are not yet filled with water, during the Golden Hour there is still magic to be seen in this wonderful, peaceful setting amid the metropolis of the Phoenix area. Since Fall is my favorite season and it is so short in Arizona, I was glad to get some seasonal landscape and nature images. See links to the Preserve in the description of the previous photo of the black-necked stilt.
This image is one that looks far better in a large view, and on black. Press L on your keyboard to see this setting.

having fun with nature... ok, ok, after some of these responses I see a need for explanation... at a gathering of women we collected things from nature and made a mandala (on the white cloth)... just before we returned our impermanent art back to nature I took some shots (like this one) based on where my eye was attracted to color and texture. I thought the red shoe of my friend (on the right) worked, maybe you have to be from Northern California to get it...
glad to see this is creating such a stir, who knew?!
Ernest Becker:
When we understand that man is the only animal who must create meaning, who must open a wedge into neutral nature, we already understand the essence of love. Love is the problem of an animal who must find life, create a dialogue with nature in order to experience his own being.
