Animal Pictures: 15 May 2011

Each week, people continue to discover amazing animal pictures.

The courageous shark expert, Michael Rutzen, 40, has captured amazing scenes of a great white shark breaching in the oceans when it is hunting a smaller seal in False Bay, South Africa on Monday (May 9). The 40-year-old expert was brave enough to spot close-up pictures of sharks leaping up to 13 feet out of the water. In the stunning hunting, no seals are hunted or hurt. For a long time, Seal Island in False Bay, 30km south of Cape Town is considered as the best place to watch this huge animal. This is also the place where scientists acknowledge that great white shark behaves differently, including the highly unusual behavior of breaching than any other sites else in the world.

Wildlife photography is considered as the most challenging of all forms of photography. It requires good technical skills, ability to expose correctly, and good field craft skills. It is sometimes difficult to approach to animals from marine animals, based animals to birds and to predict their following moves. Such form of photography requires specialist equipment like macro lenses and long focal length lenses.

However, taking animal pictures in this field is extremely rewarding. Animal photos help remember various special moments through daily lives. Such animals are natural models, and their emotions are evidently shown in pictures. Pictures of animals such as clouded leopard, orangutan, tiger, polar bear are taken from all corners of the globe. Impressive Weekly Animal Pictures: June 12 - 18

The pictures of a tiger cub playing with a dog at Hefei Zoo in China's eastern province of Anhui, a hungry lioness trying to eat a little boy at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Coloradoa, a fox trying to steal eggs, a bat flying and smiling in Jakarta, and so on are considered as some among the most impressive animal pictures of the week from June 12 to June 18.

This tiger cub is one of two cubs that have been nursed by a surrogate dog mother since the day it was born. Two three-month-old tiger cubs were abandoned by their mother at Hefei Zoo in China's eastern province of Anhui after being born. They are currently being weaned onto solid food.

Emperor penguin Happy Feet making its way back to Antarctica, lovely image of “Lengua” dog, raccoon Bobo going for a ride and Marwell Wildlife Park's three snow leopard cubs are among the weekly impressive animal picture of 2 September 2011.

The emperor penguin named Happy Feet has been lost to the New Zealand’s Peka Peka Beach on Monday 20th June 2011. Reportedly, he has been traveling approximately 7,000 km and is the first emperor penguin to visit New Zealand in 44 years. He began his travel back to Antarctica last Monday as a research vessel brought him to the point close to his Southern home. He has been named following the animated film "Happy Feet" due to the similar situation.

An 8-year-old dog named in the upcoming Guinness World Records 2012 Edition for having the longest ears, a giant 21-foot crocodile eating a whopping 300-pound Topi antelope, and two Aldabra tortoises fighting for just a carrot, are some of the weekly impressive animal pictures on September 13, 2011.

A Black and Tan Coonhound, Harbor, from Boulder, Colorado, USA is named in the upcoming Guinness World Records 2012 Edition for having the longest ears on a living dog (left and right ears measure 12.25 inches and 13.5 inches respectively. The 8-year-old dog is owned by Jennifer Wert.

Posing photos about animals, especially tiny ones is a difficult job for all photographers because they will spend much time patiently waiting for good chances and taking pictures. A Blue Morpho butterfly sucking nectar from one banana, a seagull flying over the sea at Marazion and a weaver constructing its home are among the world’s best animal pictures.

For wild animals, showing teeth does not mean smiles to the camera and photographers. The only explanation for their exposing teeth is they face up with brutal situation leading to battles for food, dating mate and territory. These fightings are always very intense but it shows how nature occasionally works and indicates the reality of cruel life.

This sparrow rudely shuts the noisy partner's beak up by his tiny talons in Sherz, Switzerland. The hen-pecked bird makes a move that was “too fast for the human eye”. The bizarre fight was captured by Urs Schmidli at the moment these sparrows were flying around his garden.

Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine has successfully replaced a tortoise's leg with a wheel. The 12-year-old African spur-thighed tortoise named Gamera was suffering from an infection after a severe thermal injury and tissue damage from an unknown source. His left front leg was then amputated at the shoulder and replaced by a swiveling wheel attached to his shell which is similar to those found on the bottom of office chairs. Reportedly, the tortoise is gaining weight and is thriving with his new appendage.

Let's take a look at the following impressive animal pictures of the previous week.

A seven-month-old yellow baboon gives a warm embrace for the little Galagos which is also known as a bushbaby. The emotional sight is captured in at the Animal Orphanage in the Kenya Wildlife Service headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. Despite the difference in nature, the baboon or Papio cynocephalus has considered the little Galagos at the orphanage as her own offspring and gives her affection and protection to the child. Galagos is nocturnal primates living in continental Africa while the yellow balloon habitats in the eastern Africa.

Peter Smith from Long Stratton, Norfolk has excellently captured the shot. This amazing cat was relaxing on the small television aerial 20ft in the air for three hours. Later, the cat was falling off the roof. The photographer said, “I think it must have been chasing a bird across the roof and fallen off. It was very scared and clinging on for dear life as the aerial is quite flimsy.”

Two kingfishers fighting while perching on a barbed wire fence, or a two-headed albino California Kingsnake bing displayed at the Skazka zoo in the Crimean city, is among impressive weekly animal pictures on July 16, 2011.

A tawny owl hanging upside down on electricity cables near Southport, Merseyside is pictured by Susan Tinsley, who stayed at the scene for around 20 minutes before leaving. However, the bird was no longer there when she came back later that day. This woman thinks that the owl might get a mild electric shock from the cable, which made it grip onto the wires and keel over.
