Pig Stuffed Animal, Pig Stuffed Animals

stuffed animals
by ACPL

There is no denying that a pig stuffed animal can compare in all around adorableness to the teddy bear; with its pink plush fur, curly tail and overall pleasing expression, children and even adults find themselves collectors of all things pig related - including the pig stuffed animal.

If you have ever wondered what an animal feels and just how happy they really are, look no further than a 2010 study on pigs conducted by experts from Newcastle University. The School of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development have successfully shown that depending on how content a pig is, it will mirror what its mood is like. All that to say, pigs are indeed capable of complex emotions and they are directly influenced how they feel by the conditions they are living in.

In the study, conducted by Dr. Catherine Douglas, researchers set out to determine if pigs were feeling optimistic or pessimistic about life in general based on the way they were living. The pigs were taught to show how they were feeling with the use of a an apple attached to a note on a percussion instrument and a kind of dog training 'clicker' that had something attached to it which was not as pleasant [as the apple] – a rustling paper bag. Half the pigs were put into an environment in which they were given more space to roam and the freedom to both walk and play with 'pig' toys in fresh straw. The other half of the pigs were placed in a smaller area that contained no straw and just one interactive toy. A squeaky noise was then played to see how the pigs would respond.

The pigs living in the better environment took an optimistic approach to the sound they had never heard before and went on to approach it with the expectation they would get the treat (the apple).

The other pigs, living in the area which was not as pleasant, took the opposite approach and were wary of the noise thus did not attempt to come forward for the treat. The reactions of the pigs is similar to the way humans feel and will react when approached with something ambiguous. For example, if your boss calls you into your office on a day when you are feeling particularly stressed and out of sorts, you will likely conclude that you have done something wrong. On the other hand, if your day has been a positive one and you are called into the boss' office, you might think you will be greeted with praise and, even a raise.

The study done on the pigs is part of an ongoing project to understand quality of life for animals on a farm with the intent of improving animal welfare and animal lives in general. One of the United Kingdom's leading experts in pig welfare says the results of this latest study need to be further "refined and validated so it could be used to help scientists determine what is really important to the pig for its well-being."

It goes without saying that any pig stuffed animal you might have in your possession should only ever be treated with the utmost love and care. After all, that pig stuffed animal is likely your most treasured companion and confidante and as is the case, is regarded as no less than a member of the family.

Correcting Dog Behavior Barking

Correcting dog behavior can be accomplished very easily if you know which steps can be done to help you with this problem. One common dog behavior that many people look to get corrected is the incessant barking that can be seen with many animals. I know that for me I have one dog that does have a barking problem that I had to correct and here are some of the methods that I used to successfully accomplish getting this dog behavior corrected.

The first step that I did to handle this issue is I taught him the meaning of the word quiet. Now for some people you might be asking how can a dog understand something that I am telling him especially something like this. Well that is easy because each time that he does the barking that you do not want him to do you will tell him to be quiet. Then when he quiets down after you say the word you will praise him with chest pats or treats.

The second step that really will help you out is to establish yourself as the alpha in your house. Now I know that many of you are probably saying that how can you possibly do this to help correct dog behavior in a barking manner, but once you do this you will learn that if you are not making any noise towards the object your dog will typically reply the same way that you are reacting. So if you are shouting or hollering at something your dog will also get upset and start making his voice known as well.

I know that these are the two methods that I used to correct my dog behavior especially his barking problems. I know that I found many other great ideas and tips by clicking here dogbarkingcure.info.

Behaviorism- Branch Of Psychology

Behaviorism is a major branch of psychology as it covers the aspects how mind is link to the physical actions preformed by the living being. The branch covers everything which a person does in his or her daily life which common folks define as behavior. This is one of the most recent discoveries in social sciences as it began to appear in the years of the World War 2 by 1950s and its main development was made in United States.

Behaviorisms discovery dates up to in the early 20th century by American psychologist John B. Watson, and accepted and further more upgraded and extended by Edward Thorndike, Clark L. Hull, Edward C. Tolman, and later B.F. Skinner. Theories of learning, which are the grass roots of the behavioral sciences define and emphasized the ways in which people might be of a nature, or accustomed, by their natural environment to behave in certain ways.

Classical conditioning also holds roots in different fields of psychology and was an early and some what a major discovery in the process behaviorist model. It is said and to some extent proved that tendencies followed by the behavioral model in the fields of psychology are unwavering by instantaneous relations between various environmental stimuli and the degree of pleasure or pain that follows a deed as the humans follow the patterns which involve the physical and mental processes. Behavioral patterns, then, were unwritten to consist of organisms' accustomed responses to the stimuli in their environment. The stimuli were held to exert influence in proportion to their prior repetition or to the previous intensity of their associated pain or pleasure. Much research consisted of laboratory-based animal experimentation, which was increasing in popularity as physiology grew more sophisticated.

Skinner is also a very notable name the behaviorism sciences as he is one of those psychologists who follow the principles of positivism and the concepts of determinism. As the names suggest that both of these principles follow the rules which boost up the human mental processes and affect the behavior. Behaviorism is the part which creates confusion and gives a rise to the experimental psychology as it is the one which created the concepts of experimentation on subjects and using the results to predict what can happen in different situation in different conditions. The concept of control experiments also arouse as it is very vital to know what does happen in real condition or without any kind of stimuli. The benefits of such study could uncountable as the human society is constantly evolving. This evolution is to be understood in order gain maximum benefits from this unstoppable process. A large number of people practice this science. The persons who practice this field of modern sciences are termed as psychologists. Such difference arises as each human perceives each item differently. The perception depends on how the mind is trained. In some cases the training conflicts. But in some cases same kind of training projects different results.

Unusual Behaviors In Society

We all have our preferred lifestyles and hobbies at home.  Some may be completely  conventional, and some may not. Even unconventional behaviors may seem a little more normal compared to the very rare and few that can be virtually impossible to imagine. These rare ways of life are actually lived day by day by very few people in the world. While it may be a mental disease for some, others may choose to live that way. Here are unusual behaviors in society.

Adult babies: Adult baby syndrome is also known as autonepiophillia and paraphillic infantilism. Very little research has been done on its origins. There also has been no answers to why it is practiced. However, only one in five are said to be women. An adult baby may live a normal day to day work life, and then come home and get into baby mode. They wear adult diapers, use pacifiers and even babble. They not only act like babies, they also are known to have a strong desire to be treated like one. Very few of them wear their diapers to fulfill an odd fetish. The majority of them do not see it as a fetish, but as just an urge to be treated like an infant. Discussions raise on whether the reasons are due to the lack of a childhood. Although this may seem very eccentric to most of us, it is a practice that is second nature to them. Due to its harmless nature, adult babies rarely seek help.

People who see their stuffed animals as their own children: We have all had our stuffed animals we loved and cherished as children. When we become adults we simply choose to leave them behind. There are adults that have been known to not only keep their stuffed animals from childhood, but also talk to their stuffed animals.

It is even more unusual to hear about someone that actually sees them as their own children. This is a very rare condition that most would think of as just a strange and humorous act that one can choose not to do. However, there are people who actually claim to feel that their stuffed animals are their children. They even claim to love and care for them. They may also dress them and do day to day duties and hobbies that include them. The hobbies that they may engage in with the stuffed animals may include dancing, singing,  and even watching movies together. There have even been people known to take their stuffed animals and put them in a stroller for a walk around the neighborhood park.

There are certainly many choices of hobbies for the various styles and tastes of humanity. When it comes to the odd ones, less people agree that they are conventional. Even though less have taste in the strange and unusual behaviors, there are still a good number who are fascinated by it and practice them on a consistent basis.

Strange Dog Behavior

Dogs truly are unique creatures. They maintain their own quirky behavior do to the odd way humans perceive how dogs act toward them. In most instances, strange dog behavior is really not all that strange. Dogs are pack animals and that means they will (hopefully) react towards their master as if the master is an alpha leader. But, there will be those instances when strange dog behavior truly is strange. Such behavior might be a cause for alarm as the dog might be sick or suffering in some way.

So, it is best to be familiar with common strange dog behavior if you wish to remain a master who can truly help and care for their four legged friend.

One thing that does need to be understood is that not all dogs are alike. As such, the behavior that may seem strange is actually acceptable for one breed as opposed to another. For example, a person that once owned a St. Bernard and then buys a poodle might be alarmed by the strange aggressive behavior the poodle shows. However, the poodle's behavior is not strange as poodles are naturally aggressive. The owner may just be used to the more laid back behavior that the St. Bernard shows.

The environment in which a dog is exposed to can have a significant impact on how it will behave. A common reason why a dog will act in an odd manner is boredom. If your dog is not getting enough exercise or it never has any chew toys to play with or the owner decides to be neglectful with the dog, it will likely become bored. As a result, the dog will start to act in a manner that is decidedly different than the owner would commonly expect.

In a similar vein, a dog could start to embody anxious behavior.

Such anxiety can have a great many different origins. Separation anxiety could be one reason. Sadly, some dogs will embody anxiety due to having been abused. Regardless of the source of the anxiety, the dog's behavior will take on the dimensions of something being wrong. The only difference would be the severity of the anxiety.

Dogs can also end up acting oddly because they have neurological issues. This will be outside of the dog's or the owner's control. Issues with the dog's neurological system will likely need to be treated by a veterinarian.

Actually, this may be the case with a large number of different dog behaviors that seem to be odd or outside the range of normality. In some cases, the treatment would not have to be medical. There are dog behavioral specialists that can help reverse such a problem through modification techniques.

It is also important to note that if the dog's behavior is overly aggressive or potentially dangerous, you need to take appropriate steps to curtail such behavior. An aggressive dog can be dangerous. As such, you need to address behavior that is overly aggressive in a cautious and appropriate manner.

Jumbo Stuffed Animal

The jumbo stuffed animal is a soft toy that reveals more about its owner and who they are than any toy manufacturer or adult could ever hope to do. Since it's true that most people in the world are always taught to strive as big as they can (and many of them do), we're lucky there are at least a handful of individualists who visualize, design, and build in a scale that has brought us the jumbo stuffed animal. These dreamers have dared to achieve greatness by thinking even bigger than big. We should be thankful for these renegades, these pioneers if you will, who march to the beat of their own drum very frequently the drum that is a jumbo stuffed animal!

A jumbo stuffed animal is simply a celebration of all soft toys great and small. It's the real animal come to life, an evolution of stuffed animals from when the first teddy bear was designed in 1902.
Some might argue that the teddy bear might never have come to fruition had it not been for the creator Margarete Steiff's nephew Richard, who was the one that perfected the design of the bear and whose work was imitated by other manufacturers around the world.

Richard's Steiff primary role in the Steiff company was to design and develop new toy lines. A recent art school graduate in Stuttgart, Germany, he was fascinated by the possibilities of a soft toy bear from his beginnings at the company. He spent many hours trying to design one that would be attractive to children. To this end, he made numerous sketches of bears in Stuttgart Zoo, circuses and animal shows. His early models, in fact, were far too realistic, frightening rather than reassuring the young people for whom they were intended. After some trial runs bears on all fours that could be ridden or pulled and bears that stood upright on their hind legs in 1902, Richard designed a series of string-jointed movable animals which included the bear. It was the first such toy in the world.

That first Steiff teddy bear, known as Bar 55 PB (bear 22in (55cm), Plusch (plush) and Beweglich (movable)), forever changed the world of soft toys and so the jumbo stuffed animal was born albeit many years later.

Fearful Behavior

Dogs and cats can develop fears of certain noises, human beings, and different objects. A fear of specific things can lead to inappropriate growling, snapping, urinating, and scratching. Your god or cat may injure itself while panicking during one of their fear attacks. All animals should be desensitized to their fears before is becomes a major problem.

Fearful behavior is normally caused by the following:
• Invasion of personal space
• Previous abuse
• The lack of pleasant experiences with people at a young age

Lack of positive socialization can cause a pet to be afraid of people and other animals outside of the family. It is best to train your pet to interact with others when they are still young. Fearful behavior should be dealt with way before biting or snapping occurs. If this type of behavior has already occurred, consult with a behaviorist immediately.

Loud noises, such as doorbells, school buses, and thunder can also cause a pet to become apprehensive. To reinforce the behavior, console your pet during the situations. Negatively punishing the pet does nothing to address the fear itself. Never reward inappropriate actions with treats and praise.

If you are unsure of how to handle your pet's fearful behavior, talk to a behavior specialist or your veterinarian who is able to prescribe anti-anxiety medications to help during the behavior modification.

Aggressive Dog Behavior ? Uncommon Behavior

Territorial aggression, redirected aggression and predatory aggression are three types of aggressive dog behavior which is not quite common but still some dogs show such type of aggression. Territorial aggression is one of the types of aggressive dog behaviors and most of the dogs show this type of behavior. It is common in dog's nature that they protect their den, their master and his house which is quite natural by the dog's instincts. Sometimes over protective nature of the dogs become too aggressive that they may bite the visitors of the house. Most of the time, under this aggression, they attack strangers, dogs and nearby animals. The reason why they attack strangers is that the dogs have very strong memory and they memorize the faces of known person and therefore if they see any unknown person or stranger, they attack him. The owner of the dog can easily identify the signs of this aggressive dog behavior and can control him by making him lower the barking towards strangers.

Redirected aggression is very uncommon type of aggressive dog behavior. The owner of the dog must have seen this type of aggression and might have confused with another one. Consider that someone is walking on the other side of the road and arouses the dog, as some people have the habit of doing this, making him so much over excited and turns his aggression on for the moment. This does not mean that he is the enemy of the dog but he just loose the control and shows aggression. This aggressive dog behavior cannot be control by the owner or any other means, this problem in the dog remains for some little time and the aggression will soon get down.

Predatory aggression is another type of aggressive dog behavior.

This aggression is natural instinct and all dogs are born with this aggression. A dog shows this type of aggression by chasing, cats, bird, or other animals most often. These three types of aggressive dog behavior cannot be easily overcome however it can be minimized but it totally depends upon the nature of the dog.

Behavior Of Cats

Cats are also wonderful animals. They are friendly and quite conscious in every act. Prior to buying cats as pets, it is advised to learn about their behavior and nature. They do have some behavioral issues like using the litter box, biting, being destructive with their claws, and excessive attention seeking problem. Always remember that cats are not at all bad in behavior, they are just uninformed a little in their nature and need care given to them. You must try to solve their behavioral problems one by one so that your pet cat does not feel confused and frustrated. Here are some most referred to behavioral issues in cats:

Attention-Seeking Behavior:
Cats do have attention-seeking behavior as well as increased vocalization when together. The causes of these things may differ from one cat to another like emotional problems, physical pain, excessive punishment to the cat, and so on. If they are suffering from Rippling Skin Disorder, this may also result in howling in the night hours.

Feeling Aggressive Towards Other Cats:
When you have cats in pairs or own more than 2 cats at home, it may result in fights between them. In case the aggression is continuous and active between cats, it will turn out to be ugly and you will have to interfere. The aggressive behavior between cats may occur because of some fear, redirected ruthless behavior, or due to some territorial issue.

Aggressive Behavior towards Humans:
The cats may feel angry towards people because of their masters poor training in the early years, fear, love and many other factors. You must be able to deal with such behavior of your cat. Try to curb their scratching and biting activities.

Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior in Cats:
Just like human beings, cats can also involve themselves in obsessive-compulsive behavior. They will show such behavior in acts like feeling hypertensive, wool sucking, fur pulling and extreme licking. If you will understand the cause and will try your best to eradicate the problem, this will ensure speedy recovery of your cat.

Destructive and Harmful Chewing by Cats and Kittens:
Destructive chewing by cats is undesirable, first, because of the potential of danger to the cat, and second, because of damage to family valuables. Causes of destructive chewing by cats can range from teething in kittens to curiosity or boredom, and even because of a nutrient deficiency.

Destructive Scratching by Cats:
Are you troubled by harmful clawing by your cats? Please don't consider Draconian measures such as declawing a cat. There are a number of ways you can keep your cats' claws happily engaged in legal clawing with these articles and aids, while protecting furniture and carpeting. Look into getting a scratching post or tree.

Cat Urine Problems:
Inappropriate elimination (litter box avoidance) is the number one reason cats are surrendered to shelters. By eliminating physical causes, such as urinary tract infections, then targeting other common reasons for litter box avoidance, you can help your cat overcome this undesirable behavior. Remember that cats don't like to use a dirty toilet any more than you would.

Shyness and Fear in Cats:
Is your kitty a "scardy-cat?" Shyness and fear stem from a number of causes, but can be overcome with gentleness and patience, as these tips explain. It is always important to allow your cat to set his own pace, and to be patient if his pace is slower than you had hoped for.

Stress and Anxiety in Cats:
While stress itself is not of behavioral origin, it can lead to a number of problems often considered behavioral, such as litter box avoidance or depression. When behavioral problems suddenly appear, savvy cat owners soon learn to first rule out signs of health problems, and next for stress factors, such as changes in the environment.

DEVIANT CONSUMER BEHAVIOR :

DEVIANT CONSUMER BEHAVIOR :

The deviant consumer behaviors include negligent and fraudulent behaviors.

Negligent Consumer Behavior : COMPULSIVE BUYING

Most consumers engage in buying as a normal and routine part of their everyday lives. But when the buying becomes compulsive the goal shifts from obtaining  utility from the purchased item to achieving gratification from the purchasing process itself. Compulsive buying is chronic. Repetitive purchasing that becomes a primary response to negative events or feelings . It becomes very difficulty to stop and ultimately results in harmful consequence to individuals or others. Compulsive buying is undesirable because it has sever consequences such as amassing huge amounts of debt that are difficult to retire and feelings of  remorse , lowered self esteem, and weekend inter personal relationships . Shopaholics are addicted to purchasing and use it as a fix to offset emotional deprivation. And when they are confronted over their spending habits they will often switch to another type of chronic destructive habits such as over eating, work holism or over exercising. Studies show that as much as 10 percent of the American population can be classified as hard core shoppers who shop for shopping sake rather that to fill real needs. One factor facilitating the process is the easy availability of the credit cards. It is probably no coincidence that there has been a rapid growth in the bank cards issued during the rise in the problem of compulsive consumption. One consumer was even able to obtain 1199 different types of credit cards to win a bet with a friend. The result of easy credit can be staggering debt. Support groups have been established to fight this type of addiction by helping people who are trying to stop their compulsion to spend beyond their means for things they don’t need.

FRADULENT CONSUMER BEHAVIOR :

Shop lifting is an example of fraudulent or a criminal type of deviant consumer behavior that involves the theft of retail merchandise during the store hours by someone who is shopping or pretending to shop. Shop lifting rose 35 per cent between the mid – 1980’s – 1990 and equals about two per cent of all retail sales excluding gas and car purchases. Thus , it must be emphasized that consumers, just as business and other organizations , have an obligation to act responsibly in the marketplace in exchange relationships.

Ethical shopping and ethical trade initiatives:

Every day we choose between different products. Our purchase decisions do not only affect us ourselves. The way the products have been produced can make a big difference to other people, to nature, the environment and to animals. Ethical purchase behavior is about taking responsibility for the influence which we control ourselves.

Ethically questionable consumer behavior

The more one equals ethics with moral criticism and moral self-criticism, the more natural it is to start with looking at unethical rather than ethical consumer behavior. In addition to potential theory-traditional reasons, there are good  practical and economic reasons for explaining, influencing and prohibiting ethically questionable consumer behavior. A red thread in this consumer ethics research tradition has been it’s the development, validation and frequent replication of the "consumer ethics scale" (often referred to as CES. This CES scale offers a list of more or less ethically questionable consumer activities for a vote. The activities can be grouped into four categories, ranging from clearly questionable to little controversial categories: Actively benefiting from illegal activity

1. Changing price tags on merchandise in a retail store.

2. Drinking a can of soda in a supermarket without paying for it.

3. Reporting a lost item as "stolen" to an insurance company in order to collect the money.

4. Giving misleading price information to a clerk for an un-priced item.

5. Returning damaged merchandise when the damage is your own fault. passively benefiting at the expense of others

6. Getting too much change and not saying anything.

7. Lying about a child's age in order to get a lower price.

8. Not saying anything when the server miscalculates the bill in your favor. actively benefiting from questionable behavior

9. Breaking a bottle of salad dressing in a supermarket and doing nothing about it.

10. Stretching the truth on an income tax return.

11. Using an expired coupon for merchandise.

12. Using a coupon for merchandise that you did not buy.

13. Not telling the truth when negotiating the price of a new automobile. No harm/no foul

14. Tasting grapes in a supermarket and not buying any.

15. Using computer software or games that you did not buy.

16. Recording an album instead of buying it.

17. Spending over an hour trying on different dresses and not purchasing any.

18. Taping a movie off the television.

19. Returning merchandise after trying it and not liking it.

Learning (Experience-Behavior)

Learning is changing of attitudes and behaviors with the time due to influences. This is a feature which has distinguished living from non-living and has accounted for the pattern of organization of species in the environment. Learning is a process which facilitates thinking via memory. Therefore behavioral and survival acts are depending on learning and determine the fitness of an organism to survive in the environment. Even though the core concept of learning is equal to every organism, capacities and methods of learning are different among species and among individuals of the same species. Due to these differences learning has become a critical factor in the natural process of evolution.

All individuals in a population exhibit virtually the same behavior, despite individual and environmental variables during development and throughout life. These types of behaviors that are fixed to a population are known as Innate behaviors. But always entire population does not show the exact same behavior. Behavior is a variable depending on experiences and environment can influence behaviors through experience based learning. Modification of behavior is triggered by specific stimuli which are known as motivations. However there are several types of learning associated with behaviors.

Imprinting

This is a phenomenon of phase sensitive learning which has both fixed-innate and dynamic-learning components. This usually happen during a specific age or a phase in life and result a rapid, long lasting response in a particular individual or an object. This is different from other types of learning by having a sensitive period (critical period) which is a limited developmental period when certain behaviors can be learned.

For example during this sensitive period via imprinting, offspring recognize parents, parents recognize their offspring and offspring learn basic behaviors of their specie.

How does a young know what or who to imprint? Sometimes tendency to respond to imprinting stimuli is innate. But some species do not have innate recognition. So they respond to the first stimuli they encounter. These stimuli should have certain key characters. Otherwise subject will try to imprint behaviors which are irrelevant in terms of evolution and beyond their capabilities. In some cases the key character of the imprinting stimuli is mobility. The subject will imprint the first moving object that it encounters. There are specificities in these characters such as in the case of mobility as the key character, specificity of character would be moving away from the subject which is requiring imprinting.

Habituation & Sensitization

This is a type of learning which explains changes in the degree of responsiveness according to the nature and frequency of stimuli.

Habituation is decrease in responsiveness to a stimuli that is frequent and conveying a little or no new information. This allows an animal to ignore unimportant stimuli.

Sensitization is increase in responsiveness to stimuli that is frequent and conveying important information. With this, nervous system of a animal can be focused on important stimuli which are critical for survival, such as food, danger or harmful substances.

Collective action of habituation and sensitization allow an animal to focus on important stimuli while ignoring others as unimportant. This will prevent waste of time and energy on information that are less important to the animal's survival and reproduction. This way habituation and sensitization may increase individual fitness and increase the chance of contributing to the gene pool of next generation.

Spatial Learning

Animals with certain higher nervous system can establish memory that corresponds to the spatial structure of the environment. Most of the activities of an animal such as finding food, building nests or mating are related to the arrangement of environment around it. Every environment has its own features with possible variations.

When developing the spatial memory it is always related to the constant, major and sensible objects in the environment. For example some birds learn to locate their nests by learning its position in relation to visible landmarks and location indicators. Since spatial memory is partially important for the survival of the organism, fitness of an organism is proportional to the capacity of spatial learning.

Cognition & Cognitive Maps

Cognition is the knowing in terms of awareness, recollection, reasoning, recognition and adjustment. This higher nervous function is involved with the intellectual ability of an individual and involve with the logical thinking and sequential planning. This helps to act without the interruption of emotions in particular situations.

There is a representation in the nervous system of spatial relationship between objects in the surrounding environment which is known as Cognitive Maps. Everything we experience and identify by the means of touch, vision or any other stimuli make a stamp on the nervous arrangement, giving rise to a pattern of neurons and their firing rates relative to the environment. These patterns build the cognitive map, the neuronal layout of the environment.

Cognitive map is a higher stage of spatial learning. In cognitive maps rather than simply memorizing objects in the environment, certain rules are applied in order to form a unique map. Therefore organism would be able to navigate more efficiently by relating location indicators to one another.

Clark's Nutcracker (Nucifraga columbiana) place pine seeds in thousands of hiding places covering a large area as 35 km2 around its nest. It uses these pine seeds as landmarks to find the position of the nest accurately. It can identify halfway between these landmarks and this act as an abstract geometric rule in their cognitive maps. Such rules are fundamental properties of cognitive maps and they will reduce the amount of details required to remember. By applying these rules with the help of cognition they can easily locate a specific object and ensure it with recognition.

Associative Learning

Some organisms have ability to associate one environmental factor (color) with another (taste). Learning related to this association is known as associative learning. This is a very strong type of learning and requires a higher nervous system, because associations between experiences should be established. In associative learning always there is a modification of existing behavior in response to an experience. There are two main types of associative learning namely; Classical conditioning and Operant conditioning.

1) Classical Conditioning

In classical conditioning, a behavior which is produced by a stimulus becomes linked with another, probably unrelated stimuli which ultimately result the same outcome after conditioning.

Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov was the first scientist to demonstrate and explain classical conditioning. In his experiment he used the salivation of a dog, in response to presence of food in mouth, as the unconditioned behavior. During the experiment, each time he gave food to the dog he rang a bell simultaneously and always salivation could be observed. After a certain period he stopped giving food and just rang the bell and observed that the dog is still salivating as it was provided with food. In here salivation had linked with the sound of a ringing bell and had become a conditioned behavior. The process by which these two unrelated stimuli are associated is known as conditioning. There could be other factors which influence classical conditioning for instance, as in this case smell of food, taste of food, vision of food and thinking of food.

2) Operant Conditioning

This is a type of trial and error learning. In operant conditioning behaviors are modified in association with reward or punishment. Organisms tend to repeat behaviors which are rewarded and avoid behaviors which are responded with punishments. Complex neuronal systems are associated with the perception of rewards and punishments.

B.F. Skinner experimented operant conditioning using the Skinner's box. He took a special box and put a rat inside it. The box was equipped with a lever, when pushed release a food pallet in to a plate and another lever when pushed give a mild sub lethal electric shock to the rat which is inside the box. Initially rat pushed both levers by chance and experienced both reward and punishment. Eventually it learned that pushing a one lever will give a electric shock, the punishment and pushing the other lever will release food, the reward. As a result of neural association in between pressing levers and different outcomes, after some time rat evaded pressing the lever which gave an electric shock and kept on pressing the lever which released food pallets.

Even though some stimuli can be linked with a particular behavior instead of the original stimuli, animals cannot learn to link any stimuli with a given behavior. Sometimes organization of the nervous system restricts associations that can be formed. Therefore associative learning is a highly selective type of learning.

Logical Thinking & Problem Solving

Thinking is the outcome of memory, which is the result of learning. Logical thinking is a neuronal activity which is involved with cognition. To be logical, organism should be mentally sound and able to reason out things. Only a organized nervous system can perform problem solving. Because it requires many aspects such as learning, memory, thinking, associating and sequencing. Organisms have to face obstacles throughout their life to survive in the environment. Cognitive activity of creating methods to proceed from one state to another in order to overcome real or apparent obstacles is known as problem solving.

Different animal species have different capacities of problem solving depending on the complexity of the organization and development of their neuronal system. Even within the same specie success of problem solving vary due to individual experiences and abilities. In higher animal species individuals can learn to solve problems by observing the behavior of other individuals at the presence of such problem. They also have the ability to modify the method of problem solving that they have learned, according to the situation of appliance. Ability of problem solving is positively related to the evolutionary fitness of an individual.

Learning appears to be controlled by individual preferences. Therefore individuals among the same specie learn different things and master different abilities giving the intellectual diversity to the population. Individual preference to learn could be either genetically predisposed or acquired after birth, with the influence of the behavior of surrounding adults. Learning preferences apparently depend on the individual ability to capture information and the type of captured information.

Organisms have to confront many challenges for their own survival and to ensure existence of their specie. In order to surmount these challenges, they require experience based behavioral modification (learning), memory and logical thinking. Most of the organisms on the planet demonstrate some way of learning. Learning could be either innate or develop at a some stage of life. Some animals have a restricted learning period while some learn throughout their life span.
