It's the story of a young faun named Bambi who grows up to become The Great Prince of the Forest. Along the way his has some help from friends Thumper the rabbit, and Flower the skunk. The plot is not without its tragedies, which is not something Disney is known for, however, they have managed to capture the true essence of what life is like for the animals of the forest. Deer can be found in many parts of the world from rainforests to tundras. It is estimated that these mammals inhabited the earth some 35 million years ago based on fossil evidence of a prehistoric deer called Megoloceros. They are herbivors which means they eat plants including tree leaves, twigs, and plant shoots. Deer are also excellent swimmers and jumpers they have powerful long legs which serves them well in this regard. At one time, Native Americans hunted deer for both food and clothing; their hides were used to make clothes and teepees. Hunting of deer is still quite popular today for food and for trophies. In some cases, hunting of these animals is done so as to decrease their over-growing populations; a herd size can increase to 35 in a span of seven years.

Deer are another one of those popular animals with children that can be seen, touched, and fed at petting zoo's. Children are able to get up close and personal with them thus giving them a real opportunity to interact with a wild animal. It's with no surprise, that a child will likely make a request for a deer stuffed animal following their experience so they are able to have a forever keepsake of the event. While petting zoos typically don't have male deer with a full head of antlers, having likely seen Bambi, a child may make a request for a deer stuffed animal that does.
