We adopted our Dexter boy about 2 years ago, when he was a little over a year old. I wanted to just update you all and let everyone know he is doing wonderful!! When we got him his name was Sparky and he was a shy pup. He is now a very active, busy pug and is doing great with our older (she is 6) pug mix. They’re inseparable, and it's hard to believe there was a time they were apart! He also adores our two girls very much ages 3 & 5. All About Animal Portraiture And How It Is Made

You should be careful with giving someone a present. There's usually a waiting period before you learn if the gift was liked. There would be more suspense on the waiting period if the president was the recipient. With her gift tucked modestly into a plastic bag, this Mount Airy resident had to sign a visitor's log in Room 45 of the Old Washington DC Taking the portrait of the president's horse, Little Man, to the recipient was the guard.

Coming from Old National Pike where she lives with her family, this artist is best known for her animal portraits. Her love for animals has now become her business as she was able to learn art back in high school and then take animal portrait courses. She has become one successful artist with her business thriving immensely.

Her medium is pastels and uses photographs as basis for her portraits. For the horse portraits, she uses show photos are her guide. Having done portraits with horses, cats, dogs, a goat, parakeets and guinea pigs she shared that each one has touched her heart. Given that she has worked with fur animals for some time she now wants to widen her experience and work with fishes and turtles with oil paints. This artist is able to take away years from the animals she paints and sometimes even making them look healthy.

According to her, it was many months in the making that she wanted to paint Little Man hence she asked the first lady for pictured. About six weeks later, she received a reply from the Special Assistant to the President and Director of Correspondence, along with some color publicity stills of the President with the horse. This was not normally the way she worked having only mailed photos as basis. Normally part of her job was to meet the animal personally and get to know they and also take note of color and other things as a picture us not enough.

Still busy on the project, she then heard the news that Little Man had died. Currently, the only hope she has is that the portrait will be special to the president. She continued with the portrait anyway, began the work and divided it roughly into four stages. Making a pastel drawing she was able to target the location of the dark, medium and light shadow tones. For blending the color after putting it in, she used her fingers.

Making the background was next and for Little Man it was light blue. The artist says the final step is to make the painting look real. The artist exhausted a lot of time making that the details were accurate and that the portrait looked real.

With her interest and love for animals she was able to complete the portrait of Little Man. With her fondness for horses, she also has one which she keeps in Poolesville. The family menagerie includes a cat, a dog and a goat. Giving the president the portrait was something that she was very proud of.

And yet, these majestic plants are only found in a small portion of the United States. Saguaro National Park protects some of the most impressive forests of these sub-tropical giants, on the edge of the modern City of Tucson.


Saguaro National Park, located in the state of Arizona, is part of the United States national park system.

Saguaro National Park is divided into two sections, lying approximately 20 miles (32 km) east and 15 miles (24 km) west of the center of the city of Tucson, Arizona. Total area in 2002 was 143 square miles (91,327 acres) (370 km²) of which 111 square miles (289 km²) is designated wilderness. There is a visitor center in each section. Both are easily reached by car from Tucson, but there is no public transport into either section. Both sections conserve fine tracts of the Sonoran Desert, including ranges of significant hills, the Tucson Mountains in the west and the Rincon Mountains in the east. The park gets its name from the saguaro cactus which is native to the region. Many other kinds of cactus, including barrel cactus, cholla cactus, and prickly pear, are also abundant in the park. One endangered animal, the Lesser Long-nosed Bat, lives in the park part of the year during its migration, together with one threatened species, the Mexican Spotted Owl.

The park was established as Saguaro National Monument on March 1, 1933, and changed to a national park on October 14, 1994.

Facilities in the park include 150 miles (240 km) of well marked and maintained hiking trails, and shorter walking trails with interpretative information available. Hiking is not advisable during the hot summer months.

The Rincon Mountain District is located at the eastern edge of Tucson, Arizona; the east side of the park was the original National Monument. What is unique about this park is that it starts off in the Sonoran Desert and gradually gives way to a montane coniferous forest of the Rincon Mountains. The highest peak in this range is Mica Mountain, at an elevation of 8,666 feet (2641 m). While this side of the park has fewer Saguaros than its counterpart they remain larger in size, due to higher amounts of rainfall and run off from the Rincon Mountains.

The key feature of this district is its 8.3-mile (13.4 km) loop, which connects its two picnic areas and central trails. Recently after a lengthy road improvement project, and refurbishment of the Visitor Center, the Rincon District is fully open once more.

Hiking on this side of the park is readily accessible to visitors. There are trail heads present at the east end of Speedway and Broadway, but these trail heads are commonly used by horses and get heavy usage on the weekends. Off the park's loop road there are several additional trail heads. Each Visitor Center will supply a map of hiking trails on request.

And at the southern boundary of the park is the Hope Camp Trails which are also commonly used for horses. Access to the Hope Camp Trails is found at the end of Camino Loma Alta, however the road is no longer paved for the last couple hundred yards. This section of the park was added in 1991 when Congress authroized the purchase of 4,011 acres (16.23 km2).

Pet training is a great way for pet owner and animal to bond together. The bonding process truly begins when the animal first enters your home. Sometimes this is hard for an older animal to bond. Going through pet training helps you and the animal to learn each other and learn how to work as a team. You will also be able to understand what drives your dogs and what can make them happy.

Training your dogs is a daily process.

You can not expect to go once or twice a week to training and your dog know what to do. You must take time to work with them at home and reinforce what they are learning in class. Working daily with your animals is a great way for you to enjoy your dogs company and teach them the necessary tricks. Remember they have short attention spans much like young children. Don't try to work too long at one time.

Pet training prices can vary in cost. This can also be based on the mode of training you choose. For example, a pet superstore may charge less in a group setting than if you choose a personal one on one trainer. Try meeting with the trainer before class time to see what is expected of you and your dog when going through the class.

There are many different benefits you can reap from putting your animals through pet training. Always keep it fun for you as well as your dogs. This will insure that you have a great time and that your animals do not get stressed. Take the time to bond with your dogs and enjoy what you are doing. This will pay off in the end for you and your well behaved animal.

What Clients Need To Know About Animation Studios

Yup, you did not read me wrong. I said - most animation companies dislike their clients.

Before you close this window in a huff, please allow me to justify my statement. First, I need you to notice that I used the word 'most'. I need you to hold this in your memory before you read on.

I need to be perfectly honest here.3D Modal Clients can be painfully ignorant sometimes. Although they are effectively our 'employers', they are also the most difficult bunch to contend with. Very often animation companies get ludricous requests from clients that go in the lines of:

'Oh, I need to do a 30 minute animation for my daughter's wedding. It would be such a lovely present for her, don't you think? By the way, I am thinking of Finding Nemo quality wise and my budget's $ 500. That should be enough right?'

Ermmm...not quite...While we appreciate your love for your daughter, Finding Nemo cost almost 100 million dollars to produce. It was about 90 minutes in length and that means 30 minutes would cost about 66 million dollars. We are missing quite a few zeros here.

Usually at this point the animation company who receives such a request goes silent for a beat, and then animated guffaws (pun intended!) arise, followed by the tone of a disengaged phone.

Actually all of us are guilty of walking at least once into a restaurant or a store thinking of getting a bite or purchasing a pair of shoes for less than what these establishments are asking for. The only difference between these scenarios and that of querying a 3D service is that we get to see the price tags and we never have to stipulate our budgets, thus avoiding the embarrassment.

The point I am trying to make is - while clients need to be more realistic about their budgets when asking for a 3D Modal service, animation companies also need to be more forgiving towards them as unrealistic expectations usually stem from ignorance. I insist that my company patiently explains the procedure of producing an animated clip.

Even if the client walks away in a daze and says she can never afford the service, at least another person in the world gets educated about the workings of an animation production. As the world becomes more knowledgeable in the way of animation production, I believe that ludricous requests such as the above example would become less common.

A good company's mandate is such that we will never scoff at a client's request and that we will always find the best solution to her needs. We love all our clients and we will endeavour to educate them on animation production so that they know how to set realistic budgets and goals for their animation projects.

Enormous cacti, silhouetted by the setting sun, for most of us the Giant Saguaro is the universal symbol of the American West. And yet, these majestic plants are only found in a small portion of the United States. Saguaro National Park protects some of the most impressive forests of these sub-tropical giants, on the edge of the modern City of Tucson.


Saguaro National Park, located in the state of Arizona, is part of the United States national park system.

Saguaro National Park is divided into two sections, lying approximately 20 miles (32 km) east and 15 miles (24 km) west of the center of the city of Tucson, Arizona. Total area in 2002 was 143 square miles (91,327 acres) (370 km²) of which 111 square miles (289 km²) is designated wilderness. There is a visitor center in each section. Both are easily reached by car from Tucson, but there is no public transport into either section. Both sections conserve fine tracts of the Sonoran Desert, including ranges of significant hills, the Tucson Mountains in the west and the Rincon Mountains in the east. The park gets its name from the saguaro cactus which is native to the region. Many other kinds of cactus, including barrel cactus, cholla cactus, and prickly pear, are also abundant in the park. One endangered animal, the Lesser Long-nosed Bat, lives in the park part of the year during its migration, together with one threatened species, the Mexican Spotted Owl.

The park was established as Saguaro National Monument on March 1, 1933, and changed to a national park on October 14, 1994.

Facilities in the park include 150 miles (240 km) of well marked and maintained hiking trails, and shorter walking trails with interpretative information available. Hiking is not advisable during the hot summer months.

The Rincon Mountain District is located at the eastern edge of Tucson, Arizona; the east side of the park was the original National Monument. What is unique about this park is that it starts off in the Sonoran Desert and gradually gives way to a montane coniferous forest of the Rincon Mountains. The highest peak in this range is Mica Mountain, at an elevation of 8,666 feet (2641 m). While this side of the park has fewer Saguaros than its counterpart they remain larger in size, due to higher amounts of rainfall and run off from the Rincon Mountains.

The key feature of this district is its 8.3-mile (13.4 km) loop, which connects its two picnic areas and central trails. Recently after a lengthy road improvement project, and refurbishment of the Visitor Center, the Rincon District is fully open once more.

Hiking on this side of the park is readily accessible to visitors. There are trail heads present at the east end of Speedway and Broadway, but these trail heads are commonly used by horses and get heavy usage on the weekends. Off the park's loop road there are several additional trail heads. Each Visitor Center will supply a map of hiking trails on request.

And at the southern boundary of the park is the Hope Camp Trails which are also commonly used for horses. Access to the Hope Camp Trails is found at the end of Camino Loma Alta, however the road is no longer paved for the last couple hundred yards. This section of the park was added in 1991 when Congress authroized the purchase of 4,011 acres (16.23 km2).

Peeking

This beautiful creature is Chandra, a female Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae), one of the rarest species on our planet (IUCN Red List category: Critically Endangered)

She was born in 2007 and housed in Edinburgh Zoo from 2008 as part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) with her brother Tibor. I watched them quietly for about 30 minutes, very grateful for a quiet day in the Zoo and no other visitors stood with me! Chandra peeked out from her 'hide' watching her brother.

Pigs, the small pink mammals associated with farmyards, being smelly, dirty and greedy and, dare I mention it, bacon sandwiches.

But pigs are much more than the butt of jokes and breakfast food stuff. Pigs are super intelligent mammals who get a bit too much bad press and, frankly, are treated appallingly particularly in intense farming conditions.

So as an accolade to this wonderfully cute, smart trotter, here are some facts that you (maybe) never knew about them.

There are many different breeds of pig from the wild boar of the Eastern European and Russian forests, to prized Gloucester Old Spots. Pigs run wild in the jungles of South East Asia and the islands of the Indian Ocean. In fact wild pigs can be found widespread across Europe and Asia, from Ireland to Japan, and from Siberia to the Indonesian Islands. In North & South America and Australia, domesticated pigs have become feral, and now live in the wild.

Pigs do not have a fully functional sweat gland, so when they are rolling in mud, theyre not being dirty, they are simply keeping cool; and they have the sense to realise that this mud acts as a sun screen as well.

Vietnamese pigs make good companion pets, if given the correct care and attention. They can be relatively easy to live with, if a little attention seeking. The huge craze for owning a Vietnamese Potbellied pig, in the United States in the 1990s has become less popular, since people became wise to the fact that these pigs grow quite large and are territorial like any other animal. Famous owners include George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Truffle hunting pigs have been taught to snuffle out truffles and are used by truffle hunters in Europe to find the prized fungi. Unfortunately having become attracted to the delicious smell, then taste of the expensive and rare mushrooms, pigs are sometimes being replaced by sniffer dogs, which tend not to eat their bounty.

Pigs are known to be excellent football players, as in, they, like dogs, derive pleasure from playing with a ball and generally being social. This emphasizes their intelligence and need for social interaction.

As already discussed, pigs have their reasons for rolling in mud, which is something God obviously didnt know about when in the bible he decreed pigs and swine to be unclean. As a result, certain religions do not eat pigs including Seventh Day Adventists.

Jews and Muslims have their own reasons for not eating the meat of the pig. But the one I like best is that God or Allah made all animals for a reason, and it is sinful to be unkind to them, so eating any meat is forbidden.
